“For all of us who grew up loving Dungeons & Dragons and Tolkien, Monster Goose is an excellent way to introduce our little ones to the world of fantasy!”―Drew Daywalt, bestselling author of The Day the Crayons Quit

“Monstrously clever―I’d rather Mary had a hippogriff than a ‘little lamb’ any day!” ―Molly Idle, award-winning illustrator of Flora and the Flamingo

“The charm and wit of the poems in this book is matched only by Abigail’s beautiful and timeless illustrations.” ―Brian Kessinger, story artist for Walt Disney animation studios

“Young readers will ‘goblin up’ these wickedly humorous re-told favorites.” ―Edith Hope Fine, author of Sleepytime Me

Enter an enchanted land of mythical creatures where manticores reign and ogres roar—a land of mystery and fright. A unique twist on traditional rhymes of everyone’s youth, Monster Goose Nursery Rhymes presents a more sinister approach to these childhood classics, and yet the sing-song nature of the poems renders them playful and jovial at the same time.

If you enjoy mischief and have a penchant for the morbidly hilarious, the Herzs’ rhymes will satisfy your mythological curiosities. Larson’s illustrations give new life to these ancient figures, and her artistic style employs the bold lines and colorful movement of an action-packed comic book. The author also includes a “bestiary” with information about the book’s legendary creatures, which hail from Scotland, Germany, Italy, Persia, Haiti, and Scandinavia.

With a 6 yr old who loves to read, I was excited to get this hardcover copy of Monster Goose Nursery Rhymes by Authors Henry, Josh and Harrison Herz.  The illustrations by Abagail Larsen are amazing! Each page is richly illustrated and after reading the text, my girls always want to talk about what is going on in the pictures as well.  I love how each nursery rhyme tells the reader in which rhyme to read.  It makes for a very theatrical reading from our 6 yr old and makes the 3 yr old laugh.  Our girls love this book and so do I. It is well written with fantastic illustrations.  I think it would make a wonderful addition to any young readers library.
